[Gyeongju] A Hanok Miffy Store on Hwangnidan-gil, Home of the Stone-Gray Gyeongju Miffy

After the milmyeon lunch, we wandered into Hwangnidan-gil, the most energetic street in Gyeongju right now. It hums with visitors of every age, its hanok buildings converted into gift shops, clothing stores, cafes — and caricature studios, apparently the current craze. Under the old capital’s tiled roofs, all of today’s Korean cuteness is on sale.

A Hanok With a Rabbit Living in It

On one corner stands Miffy Store Gyeongju, and its exterior is the surprise: a full hanok, tiled roof and timber beams and all. At the entrance, a stone-gray Miffy sits primly on a pedestal carved like a pagoda base — as if the Dutch rabbit had passed through the hands of a Silla stonemason.

The Gyeongju-Exclusive “Stone Miffy”

Inside, the store was packed — families, couples, everyone. The star is the Gyeongju-exclusive line: Miffy rendered in the gray of old stone statues. A whole wall of the keychains hanging in rows is quite a sight, and a persuasive demonstration of the pull of “only available here.” Souvenirs in the old capital are no longer just pagoda replicas and sweets, and the street is better for it.

Notes from the Day

• Hwangnidan-gil, near Daereungwon and Cheomseongdae, is currently the liveliest street in Gyeongju — hanok buildings converted into gift shops, cafes, photo studios, and caricature shops.
• Miffy Store Gyeongju occupies a full hanok, with a stone-carved Miffy on a pagoda-style pedestal greeting you at the door.
• The Gyeongju-exclusive line — Miffy in stone-statue gray — is the draw, and the store gets genuinely crowded.
• There is a Miffy cafe nearby too; pair it with a stroll down the street.
