Every trip abroad from Haneda begins in the same place. Clear immigration at Terminal 3, ride the central escalator up to the 4th floor, and there it is: the TIAT Lounge — the de facto starting line of our family’s travels.

We almost always fly out on early-morning departures, which means breakfast happens not at home but here, in that hour when the windows are just turning pale and pre-flight excitement is still tangled up with sleepiness. The lounge’s particular combination of a plate and a glass fits that hour exactly.
Karaage, yakisoba, and a morning beer
The food here is unpretentious and quietly perfect for travelers: fried chicken, yakisoba noodles, edamame, rice balls, curry — in short, a lineup that understands beer. On travel mornings, and only travel mornings, I permit myself a glass before boarding. Karaage with a morning beer carries a taste of mild transgression and total release that ordinary life never offers.
Beyond beer there is sake, wine, even Japanese craft gin, so the pre-departure ritual never lacks options. I close with a coffee and let my head switch fully into travel mode.

How to make use of this lounge
The location is the 4th floor of the post-immigration area, straight up the escalator after security. It runs 24 hours, which makes it a reliable refuge for red-eyes and dawn departures alike. Entry works with Priority Pass and certain premium credit cards such as Diners Club, and shower rooms let you reset properly before a long flight. Conditions and eligible hours change from time to time, so check official information before you rely on it.
It does get crowded — at the late-night departure rush, queues to enter are not unheard of. On early-morning schedules like ours, a calm window seat is usually easy to find.
One drink, then sleep over the ocean
So today, once again: one drink here, then a stretch of sleep on the long flight, and the real journey begins on arrival. A lounge breakfast is not really about the food — it is the switch that moves you from daily life into travel.
Notes from the day

- Entry via Priority Pass or eligible premium cards — conditions vary over time, so verify officially

This time our destination is Busan — finally collecting on the homework our daughter assigned us at a Korean restaurant in Yokohama: “you have to try the real thing”. Lounge details are on the official Haneda Airport website.
