About five minutes after boarding the free shuttle at Gimpo’s international terminal, the bus pulls up right at the 1st-floor entrance of the domestic terminal. From here on, we were travelers inside Korea’s everyday air network.

The flow is refreshingly simple: enter on the 1st floor where the bus drops you, take care of check-in at the 2nd-floor counters, then head to departures on the 3rd. There is an ID check before security, but no passport control on a domestic sector — everything moves a beat faster.

Watching everyday Korea from a gate-side café

We passed the wait at a café by the boarding gate, watching commuters in suits and families with luggage flow past. The crowd is different from the tourist-facing international terminal, and you realize you have slipped into the rhythm of ordinary Korean travel. I rather like that feeling.

Gimpo to Gimhae, about an hour

The flight from Gimpo down to Busan’s Gimhae Airport takes roughly an hour. Counting from Haneda that morning, the day’s mileage had grown respectable — lounge, international flight, shuttle bus, domestic flight — but by this leg, we were seasoned at it.
