Day 3 in Seoul. Today we made our way to Hongdae — the home base of Seoul’s youth culture. Step outside and the streets immediately overflow with young people dressed in the newest fashions, radiating energy.
First, lunch — pasta in a beautifully designed space. Each bite a reminder of how seriously Seoul takes food, at every level. Relaxing over beer, the midday noise softened into a brief, well-earned rest.
Reading “Market Value” in the Trendsetter District

Walking the shopping streets through the lens of someone running a business, a realization becomes hard to ignore: the prices of Korean goods have largely risen to match those in Japan. The era of simple import-based merchandising built on price gaps is effectively over.
What creates value in this market going forward isn’t simple “importing” — it’s additional value, original story, genuine differentiation. That much became clear.
Meanwhile, my wife and daughter needed no business analysis — they were entirely focused on the stream of appealing items appearing around every corner. Walking the energetic streets, feeling the “temperature” of Seoul right now — it turned out to be an exceptionally worthwhile day.
