Getting through another busy week, and then the weekend arrives. Saturday mornings always begin a little more slowly. No particular plans — just heading to Yokohama Hammerhead by the water. The sea air and open view gradually dissolve the tension that had built up through the week.

Unwinding at Hammerhead on a Morning
A bowl of dashi chazuke at a shop serving Itoen matcha. Simple, unhurried food that settles into the body. By the time I finish eating, I’ve stopped checking the time.
A Drink Each, in the Shade
Then over to Starbucks. It was a bright day, so we went straight for the shaded seats. I had an Affogato Frappuccino; my wife chose an Americano. A cold glass and a warm cup, side by side on the same table. Something about it felt just right. In front of us, a small light-blue trailer. Tourists’ laughter and the calm pace of locals crossing back and forth.

The Ordinary Moment Is the Luxury
Against that backdrop, we talked — about our daughter’s growth, about a trip we’re planning. No conclusions reached. Just the pleasure of talking to each other. No grand events, no lavish purchases. And yet, it’s exactly these unhurried moments that feel like the real luxury. Richness, I think, is nothing more than the accumulation of quiet afternoons like this one.
Notes from the Day
- Where: Yokohama Hammerhead (Shinko Pier) — open waterfront location
- How we spent it: morning walk → dashi chazuke → coffee on the terrace, a simple weekend style
- Drinks: Affogato Frappuccino (me) / Americano (wife)
- Takeaway: Richness lives in the moments when you stop chasing something special
