RED° TOKYO TOWER Closed on 6 May 2026: A Record of the Visit Travel

The conclusion first, because it is what you came for: RED° TOKYO TOWER closed on 6 May 2026. The operator described it as entering “a preparation period for new developments”, and no reopening date has been announced.

What follows is a record of a family visit while it was still running. If you were searching in order to plan a trip, that first line is the part you needed, so I moved it to the top.

It was inside Foot Town, at the base of Tokyo Tower

RED° TOKYO TOWER occupied part of the first and third floors of Foot Town — the five-storey building at the base of Tokyo Tower — plus the floors above them. It billed itself as Japan’s largest digital amusement park.

It opened in 2022. Before that, the same space held Tokyo One Piece Tower, from 2015 until it closed permanently in 2020. The same rooms were filled twice in a decade with a large experience-led attraction, and emptied twice.

A room where the wall and the floor were one image

Illustration — not a photograph.

What stayed with me was a room where the projection ran continuously from the wall onto the floor. Standing inside a scene with a shark swimming toward you, the floor lines meet the wall lines and your sense of depth stops working properly.

There were headset attractions too, but for a family visit the spaces you simply walk into, wearing nothing, were the ones that actually got used. Younger children often refuse goggles, and that is where this kind of venue tends to succeed or fail.

The base of the tower itself is unchanged

The attraction is gone; the tower is not.

  • Main Deck: 150 m
  • Top Deck: about 250 m, visited on the guided Top Deck Tour
  • Foot Town: the five-storey building at the base, with restaurants and shops
  • The tower: 332.9 m, completed in 1958 and opened to the public on 23 December that year

The steelwork seen through those lanterns does not change whichever tenant is inside. In the end the strongest thing on this site is the tower itself — an obvious point that a closure notice makes concrete.

Summary

  • RED° TOKYO TOWER closed on 6 May 2026; no reopening date has been announced
  • It sat inside Foot Town at the base of Tokyo Tower, open from 2022 — and before it, Tokyo One Piece Tower from 2015 to 2020
  • The walk-in projection spaces worked better for a family than the headset attractions
  • Tokyo Tower itself is operating normally: Main Deck at 150 m, Top Deck at about 250 m
