My husband and I made a monetary offering at the main shrine and joined hands to pray for prosperous business as a family, which was a peaceful experience. Strolling through the shrine grounds and around the money boxes lined with statues of foxes was fun, and with English interpretation panels detailing the shrine’s history, we saw many visitors with friends from overseas. The front path is perfect for families to relax and experience the faith.
Worship is free, and the shrine grounds are open 24 hours a day (the main shrine is open from 5:00 a.m. to around 5:00 p.m.). The warm hospitality of the staff was also pleasant, and I was delighted to receive a map of the shrine as a gift for my children. The lights of the city at night could be seen from the window, and the family reflected on the day. The serenity of Fushimi deepened the lingering memories of our trip.

If you visit the shrine first thing in the morning, you will have the quiet shrine grounds all to yourself. Choose the 1km course to stroll around the Senbon-torii (1,000 torii gates) and share Inari Sushi at the Inari Tea House. Avoid the crowds at Fushimi Inari Onsen by taking an evening bath, and consult a town map after checking in at the Fushimi Inari Guest House. 2025 Inari Festival (April) will feature a full lineup of local events and more English-speaking guides.
