Pearl Star Hotel Atami Attractions and Access

Opened in December 2024 in Atami, Shizuoka Prefecture, the Pearl Star Hotel Atami is a rare boutique hotel with a total of only 12 rooms. The hotel features a sophisticated design that has earned it the nickname “the Monaco of Japan,” and a location overlooking the Atami Sea. The hotel is attracting attention as a resort that is easily accessible, being about 50 minutes from central Tokyo by Shinkansen bullet train and about 10 minutes from Atami Station by free shuttle bus. All guest rooms have ocean views and are mainly suites with open-air baths. It has the atmosphere of an adult’s retreat with an emphasis on privacy.

Although it has become a hot topic on TV and SNS, and reservations have been difficult to get since its opening, it is the perfect place for a year-end and New Year’s closing trip. Located on a hill a short distance away from the hot spring resort area of Atami, the hotel offers a quiet environment and exclusive access to the ocean and hot springs.

The beginning of a hot spring trip to close out the year.

We chose the Pearl Star Hotel Atami because we wanted to end the year 2025 in a special place. Attracted by the large, doorless rooms with hot springs featured on TV, our trip was to rediscover Atami, a city we had not visited in a long time. What surprised me the moment I entered the room after checking in was the spacious open-air bath integrated with the bedroom. With no door, the entire room was warmly enveloped by the steam from the hot spring.

At first I was worried that the floor might get wet, but the flooring material and drainage design were well thought out, so there was no problem at all. In fact, the whole room is moderately moist and warm, which is the best comfort during the cold winter season. I realized that this design was an ingenious way to maximize the enjoyment of the private spa.

Blissful time brought by the open-air bath in the room

The open-air baths in the guest rooms are fed by Atami hot spring water and are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The bathtub is large enough to comfortably accommodate two adults and offers a spectacular view of Atami Bay. The time spent soaking in the hot water and watching the ocean at dusk and the night view was exceptional. When my body became hot from the hot spring, I went out on the balcony to enjoy the sea breeze–this “getting ready” feeling was very comfortable.

The refrigerator in the room was well stocked with beer, juice, and mineral water, which you could drink as much as you wanted. Having a cold drink on hand right after a hot spring bath is a luxury in itself. The mini-bar was stocked with snacks, and I was able to relax in my room until late at night. This kind of attentive service gently soothes the fatigue of the end of the year.

In-room dining with seafood from Atami

We chose in-room dining for dinner. The course was centered on seafood typical of Atami, and included dishes such as simmered sea bream, lobster, and assorted sashimi. All of the dishes were exquisite, with the flavor of fresh seafood concentrated in the dishes, and combined with the night view from the large window in the room, it made for a very special dinner.

Atami is famous not only for its seafood, but also for its onsen tamago (hot spring eggs) and dried fish, and this hotel offers creative cuisine that makes the most of local ingredients. The advantage of in-room dining is that you can dine at any time and at any pace you like. This is ideal for those who want to spend a quiet time away from the hustle and bustle of the end of the year. Breakfast the next morning was also served in our room, giving us a relaxing morning.

Atami’s Charm as the “Monaco of Japan” and How to Enjoy It

The Pearl Star Hotel Atami is a new landmark in Atami and has been called the “Monaco of Japan. Its luxurious design, limited number of guest rooms, and private space create an atmosphere reminiscent of an overseas resort hotel. There are many sightseeing spots nearby, such as Atami Sun Beach, Raikyu Shrine, and Atami Castle, where you can enjoy a stroll, but spending time just inside the hotel will be enough to satisfy your needs.

In terms of access, a free shuttle service from Atami Station is convenient. Parking is also available for cars, making it easy for travelers with a lot of luggage. Reservations are especially busy during the year-end and New Year holidays, so early planning is recommended. Rooms with private hot spring baths are perfect for families and couples, and were the perfect place to reset after a long year.

Private Wisdom-like Summary

At the end of the year at the Pearl Star Hotel Atami, a doorless hot spring, an all-you-can-drink refrigerator, time to get ready on the balcony, and in-room dining seafood – these small luxuries brought a quiet contentment to my heart. It is these moments, away from everyday life, when we simply face ourselves, that teach us true richness and wisdom. Welcoming the end of the year journey in such a private space will give you a peaceful energy for the new year. Why don’t you also cherish your precious moments in a place like this? The wisdom that shines deep within will surely come to life quietly.
