Introduction to Thailand and the St. Regis Bangkok: A Luxury Base

Thailand is one of Southeast Asia’s top tourist destinations, with the vibrant temples of Bangkok, the historic culture of Chiang Mai and the beautiful beaches of Phuket, attracting some 39 million visitors by 2023 (Tourism Authority of Thailand data) and offering a diverse range of experiences. The St. Regis Bangkok is a five-star hotel located on Ratchadamri Road in the heart of Bangkok, the flagship of the Marriott Bonvoy family, featuring 229 spacious rooms, 24-hour butler service, an outdoor pool and a breakfast buffet served at the VIU on the 12th floor BTS Directly connected to Ratchadamri Station for easy access. More information can be found on the official website of the St Regis Bangkok. Breakfast information can be found on the official VIU restaurant website, Thailand tourism can be found on the Tourism Authority of Thailand website and details about Bangkok can be found on the official Bangkok Tourism website. During this stay, we experienced the luxury of the St Regis.

Reason for stay: luxury getaway to Thailand

When we planned our trip to Thailand, we wanted our stay in Bangkok to be special, so we chose the St. Regis Bangkok, with an itinerary of 4 days and 3 nights, visiting Wat Pho and Chatuchak market, and giving importance to the comfort of the hotel. The hotel is directly connected to the BTS, making it easy to get around. After the flight from Haneda to Suvarnabhumi airport, take a Grab to the hotel (about 1,000 yen, 30 minutes). This choice improved the quality of my rest on the trip.

Room comfort: space and entertainment

The rooms have 44 m², a pleasant modern design and soothing colors. The king-size bed is comfortable and the marble and deep bathtub in the bathroom invite you to relax. In particular, you can watch YouTube and Netflix on demand on the Smart TV. In the evening, we relaxed by watching Thai tourist videos on YouTube. According to our research, all rooms at the St. Regis are 44 sq m or larger, with high-speed Wi-Fi and smart features as standard ([Web:0,3]) Tips: since the in-room minibar is expensive, we bought drinks at a nearby 7-Eleven. This convenience helped me relax after a long trip.

24-hour butler service: cappuccino delight

The St Regis’ signature 24-hour butler service elevates your stay. You can order tea or coffee over the phone at any time, and I love a cappuccino. It has the perfect balance of rich espresso and smooth milk, perfect for a relaxing morning or afternoon. Research shows that butler service is at the core of the St Regis brand and flexible to guest requests ([Web:0,4]) Tips: cappuccino is provided free with room service (a maximum of two a day is recommended). Ask your butler for advice on sightseeing and you can also get information on hidden restaurants. This service made our stay more special.

Toilet conditions: safety in luxury hotels and challenges in Thailand.

Toilet conditions in Thailand are such that there are almost no bidet toilets and in many places paper cannot be thrown away. Research shows that in public facilities and cheap accommodation, plumbing is old and paper is often thrown away ([Web: 5,14,16]). At the St Regis, however, the toilets are luxurious and paper can be thrown away without problems. The only pity is that there are no toilets with bidets. The lobby toilets are decorated with fresh flowers and have a pleasant natural floral scent, not air fresheners.Tips: bring a portable bidet for convenience. The hotel toilets are clean and safe. This contrast indicates the value of the hotel.

Breakfast buffet: full of Westerners and Tom Yum Kung

We enjoyed a buffet breakfast (approx. 4,000 yen/person) at the VIU on the 12th floor. Some 60 Japanese, Western and Thai dishes are offered, with a particularly rich selection of Japanese food (miso soup, grilled fish). The tom yum kung fu, typical of Thailand, is spicy, and spicy is strong for the Japanese. According to a survey, VIU is highly rated ([Web: 0.3]) among Bangkok’s luxury hotel buffets. Tips: avoid crowds by entering the restaurant around 8 am. Ask for a window seat to enjoy the Bangkok skyline. This breakfast made for a pleasant morning on our trip.

International environment: predominantly Western environment

The hotel is crowded with Western guests and the staff is multinational. English is spoken in the lobby and restaurants, creating an international atmosphere. Surveys show that downtown Bangkok is dominated by business travelers and tourists, while the St. Regis is especially popular with Westerners ([Web: 4.14]). The staff is friendly and familiar; as a tip, conversing in plain English makes interaction fun. For a quieter stay, request a higher floor. This multicultural atmosphere has enhanced our travels.

Overall satisfaction: luxury and Thai realism

This stay at the St Regis Bangkok was memorable for its spacious rooms, butler service and bustling breakfast. The toilet situation in Thailand is a challenge, but the convenience of the hotel covers it. Next time I would like to try the pool and spa. Research shows that the St Regis is one of the best five-star hotels in Bangkok ([Web:0,3]) Tips: stay midweek for a quieter stay. Budget about 40,000 yen per night for a worthwhile experience. Note: this information is based on personal experience and the atmosphere varies from time to time.

Wisdom-type private summary

Luxury and cosmopolitan ambience fill the heart of the St Regis Bangkok. The key to personal wisdom is to make use of the butler service, enjoy Thai food at breakfast and cover the grooming situation with preparation. This relaxing stay in the hustle and bustle of Bangkok is a quiet lesson in the richness of travel.
