Introducing Yao Rooftop Bar and Travel Thailand: Bangkok’s Best View Dining

Thailand is Southeast Asia’s leading tourism powerhouse, with the bustling temples of Bangkok, the historical culture of Chiang Mai, and the beautiful beaches of Phuket attracting visitors from around the world. Yao Rooftop Bar is a rooftop bar located on the top (33rd) floor of the Marriott Hotel The Surawongse, above the adjacent Yao Restaurant. It features a chic Shanghai-style décor and 360-degree night view of Bangkok, and serves Thai and Chinese cuisine, as well as Chaing beer. More information can be found on Yao Rooftop Bar’s official website. Thailand tourism information can be viewed at the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Bangkok tourism official website for more information on Bangkok, and hotel information can be viewed at the Bangkok Marriott Hotel The Surawongse official website. We enjoyed the spectacular view and gastronomic delights at Yao Rooftop Bar on this trip.

Reason for visit: For the night view of Bangkok

Planning a trip to Thailand with my family, we chose Yao Rooftop Bar for a Thai dinner while enjoying the night view of Bangkok, a special dinner after touring Wat Pho and Icon Siam on a 4-day/3-night itinerary. Reservations were made through the official website and we requested a covered table (from about 3,000 baht per person). The hotel is about a 10-minute walk from Chong Nong Si BTS station, or take a Grab (about 300 baht). According to our research, Yao Rooftop Bar will be renovated in 2022 and listed in the Michelin Guide.Tips: make reservations a week in advance and enjoy the night view at dusk (18:00-19:00). This choice was the start of a luxurious evening.

Elevator specialness: staging to raise expectations

Yao Rooftop Bar is accessed from Yao Restaurant (32nd floor) via a private elevator to the top floor. According to the survey, this elevator is designed in a vintage style, creating a sense of anticipation among guests. In my case, I was thrilled by the elevator’s heavy doors and lighting, and my child was excited too, saying, “It looks like a secret place. The staff will guide you through the elevator and you will arrive without hesitation. This presentation made the dinner more special.

Thai food and Chaing Beer: Harmony with the spectacular view

The menu consists mainly of Thai and Chinese dishes. We ordered Gapao rice (400 baht, about 1,600 yen), Pad Thai (350 baht, about 1,400 yen), and Dim Sum (from 300 baht). The gapao has an exquisite basil aroma and spicy flavor, while the pad thai’s sweet and sour taste is a family favorite. Chaeng beer (150 baht, about 600 yen) has a dry, refreshing taste that is perfect for the Thai heat (30°C). According to our research, Chaan is one of Thailand’s two most popular beers (along with Singha, 80% of the market) and goes well with Yao’s food; as a tip, request less spicy (mai phet). Order a cold glass of beer. This gastronomic delicacy was the perfect complement to the night view of Bangkok.

Handling the rainy season: the security of a covered table

It was the rainy season in August and during dinner we had a typhoon-like downpour. Fortunately, the concierge had reserved a covered table for us in advance and we experienced zero discomfort. Research shows that during Thailand’s rainy season (June-October), covered seating is popular at outdoor restaurants because of the sudden and frequent heavy rain. As a tip, request a covered table when making a reservation during the rainy season. Prepare folding umbrellas and raincoats. This consideration made for a comfortable dinner.

Rooftop culture in Thailand: openness without earthquakes

Rooftop bars and swimming pools are popular in urban areas of Thailand due to the country’s low seismic activity. According to a survey, there are more than 100 rooftop establishments in Bangkok, and Yao is one of the highest rated. In my case, I was impressed by the night view of the old city of Bangkok and skyscrapers from the 33rd floor. Even my children’s eyes lit up at the skyline.Tips: visit at dusk to fully enjoy the lights. Observe the dress code (smart casual). This openness provided a fresh dinner .

Overall Satisfaction: Spectacular view and gastronomic evening

Dinner at Yao Rooftop Bar was a memorable experience with Thai food, churned beer, and a night view. The handling of the rainy season and the elevator added a special touch. Next time I would like to try cocktails on a clear night; as a tip, a budget of 4,000 baht per person is sufficient. Note: This information is based on personal experience and conditions vary depending on the time of year.

Private Wisdom-like Summary

Yao Rooftop Bar fills the heart with spectacular views and gastronomy. My personal wisdom is that reserving a covered table and savoring a Thai night with a churned beer is key. Bangkok’s skyline and the smiles of family members quietly inform you of the richness of travel.
