Yokohama Museum of Art and Del Mar: A Fusion of Culture and Gastronomy
Yokohama Museum of Art is a temple of contemporary art that opened in 1989 in the Minato Mirai 21 district. The museum boasts a collection of approximately 13,000 works, ranging from masterpieces by Picasso and Dali to artists associated with Yokohama, and is characterized by its open space designed by Kenzo Tange. Meanwhile, Del Mar COMEDOR Y TERRAZA is a Spanish restaurant in Yokohama Hammerhead that opened in 2019. Enjoy authentic tapas and paella on the terrace overlooking Yokohama Bay. On this day, the trip was to fill our hearts at the museum and to enjoy the taste and seascape at Del Mar.
From Private Wisdom’s point of view, these places are stages that nurture sensitivity and memory. We gained new insights in these two places where Yokohama’s history and modernity intersect.
Chapter 1: Silence at the Museum on a Rainy Morning
It was raining heavily on a Golden Week morning in Yokohama. I arrived at the Yokohama Museum of Art at 10:00, the museum’s opening time, but due to the weather, the number of visitors was sparse. Stepping into the spacious Grand Gallery, I was struck by the pleasant silence, as if time had slowed down to a crawl. My daughter and wife and I headed for the exhibition rooms and immersed ourselves in the art as the sound of rain whispered outside the window. This quiet environment embodied the “time for reflection” that Private Wisdom values. A luxurious moment to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life and to adjust one’s mind began.
With only a few visitors, we faced the artworks with a sense of peace and serenity. This silence was a special moment to dialogue with the past through works of art.

Chapter 2: Exhibits Tracing Yokohama’s History
The main theme of the exhibition at the Yokohama Museum of Art on this day was the history of Yokohama. The collection traces the transition of the port city since its opening through photographs, paintings, and prints. My daughter was fascinated by a work by Shimomura Kanzan, a painter associated with Yokohama, and said excitedly, “Yokohama used to be like this! I was also excited to see the works of Shimomura Kanzan, a painter associated with Yokohama. I was also moved by the works that tell the story of Yokohama from the end of the Edo period to the present day. Masterpieces by Picasso and Dali were also on display, but the works reflecting the history of Yokohama were particularly impressive.
From Private Wisdom’s perspective, art is not only a thing of beauty, but also a bridge between the past and the present. This exhibit was a time to touch the soul of Yokohama and share learning with family members.

Chapter 3: Spanish Cuisine at Del Mar
After leaving the museum, we went to Del Mar COMEDOR Y TERRAZA at Yokohama Hammerhead as the rain stopped and the skies cleared. On the terrace overlooking Yokohama Bay, we ordered octopus Galician style. The octopus was tender and spicy, and my daughter said, “Octopus is so delicious! My daughter’s cheeks bulged with delight. I ordered a gin and tonic, which I have recently been into, and was surprised to learn that it was non-alcoholic, but was satisfied with its refreshing lemon flavor. As I exchanged smiles with my wife, the meal with the sea breeze filled my heart.
At Private Wisdom, food is not only a taste experience, but also a family bonding ritual, and Del Mar’s cuisine and the view of Yokohama Bay vividly colored my memories of the day.

Chapter 4: From Rain to Sunshine, Yokohama Bay Shines
By the time we finished our meal, the rain had completely lifted and Yokohama Bay was sparkling. The view of the ocean from the terrace of the Hammerhead was like a painting, with cruise ships and the Landmark Tower in the background. My daughter pointed out to the sea, “Ships are so cool! while my wife and I were mesmerized by the beauty of the clear sky and ocean. This change in weather is symbolic of the “savor the moment” that Private Wisdom celebrates. From the silence of rain to the radiance of sunshine, the nature of Yokohama told us a story.
A walk along the seaside is a peaceful time shared with the family. The unique scenery of the port city of Yokohama has added new colors to our hearts.

Chapter 5: A Family Moment of Peaceful Happiness
The moment my daughter’s eyes lit up when she saw history at the museum; the time we shared a smile over octopus dishes at Del Mar; the time we walked along the sunny beach feeling the breeze. A walk on the beach on a sunny day, feeling the breeze in the air. Each one of these moments was a treasure that strengthened our family ties. The day, with its combination of the quietness of rain and the liveliness of sunshine, embodied the “peace of mind” that Private Wisdom values so much. My daughter’s curiosity and my wife’s warm gaze made this day special.
In contrast to the bustle of Golden Week, the quiet museum and seaside time brought us a deep sense of peace and tranquility. The scenery, art, and cuisine of Yokohama enriched our family story.
Chapter 6: Private Wisdom-like Summary
Our day at the Yokohama Museum of Art and Del Mar COMEDOR Y TERRAZA was a journey of serenity and vibrancy, history and modernity, food and scenery. The serenity of a rainy day at the museum, the deepening family dialogue as we learned about Yokohama’s history, and the joy of octopus on a sunny seaside. All of these were moments of discovering the “beauty and meaning in the everyday” that is the spirit of Private Wisdom.
We reaffirmed learning through our daughter’s curiosity, love through the eyes of my wife and I, and the sparkle of life through the scenery of Yokohama. This day showed us how profoundly happy the small moments of life can be, and private wisdom means cherishing these moments and weaving wisdom and gratitude from them. Our day in Yokohama has left a new story in the hearts of our family.
