The “depth of flavor” refers to the memories and experiences that extend beyond the taste buds. We visited Baekje Sanggitang in search of the luxury of tranquility.
Gentle steam in the morning in Myeongdong
Baekje Santillo is a long-established restaurant located in the heart of Myeongdong, Seoul, Korea. Even though it was 8:00 in the morning, the restaurant was crowded with Japanese tourists, quietly filling the seats. The warm aroma of medicinal herbs and chicken wafted through the clean space.
The gift of chicken soup
The Sanggitang Soup was quietly standing behind the steam. The clear broth was filled with whole chicken, glutinous rice, ginseng, jujubes, and chestnuts. With each sip, warmth seeps into the heart of your body.
The flavor is light, but the richness of the flavor spreads out like a carefully drawn Japanese soup stock.
Differences in tastes make the journey richer.
The aroma of ginseng was a bit too strong for me, to be honest. My wife, however, loved its subtle bitterness and earthy depth and devoured it. My daughter also said, “It’s delicious,” and carried the lenghae with a smile on her face.
While sharing the same dish, they shared their “likes” and “dislikes” with each other. This is the warmth of the family relationship.
To feel “tranquility” in a sightseeing area
Myeongdong in the morning. Although there were many people, there was a sense of “well-organized quietness” inside Baekje Sanggitang. In this foreign space where English and Japanese are spoken, only the steam from the hot pots keeps the tempo of conversation going.
No matter where you are, you have to stay in your own rhythm. This may be the most luxurious thing about traveling.
Private Wisdom Summary
Breakfast at Baekje Sanggitang was more than “eating healthy food”; it was an experience of “savoring quiet memories”. Eating a meal while traveling is more than just a nourishing experience; it is an act of savoring the culture and atmosphere of the place you are visiting.
And the most luxurious thing of all was the time spent in the company of other members of the family, each noticing what he or she liked and sharing it with others.
Wealth is time spent feeling free.
