The Destination and the Beginning of the Journey
In our search for a weekend getaway, we were drawn to the allure of the port city of Yokohama. Our destination was the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse and the Larboard restaurant located at the InterContinental Yokohama Pier 8. The Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse, known for its historical architecture and lively events, is a popular spot for tourists and locals alike ( Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse ). The InterContinental Yokohama Pier 8, on the other hand, is a luxurious hotel located on the seaside in Yokohama, and “Larboard” on its second floor is attracting attention as a place offering sophisticated cuisine and a spectacular view ( InterContinental Yokohama Pier 8 ).
In the spirit of Private Wisdom, we set out on a journey to step away from the everyday and seek a moment that combines reflection and luxury. We set out with the hope that the sea breeze of Yokohama would provide the perfect opportunity to reset our minds and bodies.
What we did: From a hamburger festival to a gastronomic experience at Larboard
Our first stop was the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse. A hamburger festival was being held here, with various restaurants competing to offer the most delicious hamburgers. The festival venue was filled with the aroma of freshly grilled buns and juicy patties, an appetizing sight. Unfortunately, the lines at the popular stores were so long and the heat and occasional rain so difficult to endure that we had to abandon our purchases. The line itself felt like a pain, and following the teachings of Private Wisdom, we decided to take it easy and head to our next destination.
We walked straight to the InterContinental Yokohama Pier 8 and went to Larboard, a restaurant on the second floor. Upon entering the restaurant, we found a quiet and elegant atmosphere that was a complete change from the hustle and bustle of the city. There we ordered a beef burger and a fish burger. The beef burger had a strong and concentrated meat flavor, while the fish burger was a harmony of crispy batter and fresh fish, both of which were very satisfying. We then ordered cappuccino and gateau chocolat for dessert. The creamy foam of the cappuccino and the rich chocolate of the gateau chocolate melted in my mouth, creating a blissful moment that soothed my fatigue. I was able to end my weekend in Yokohama with such a gastronomic treat, which spread a sense of inner satisfaction.
What I felt: Luxurious time in harmony with nature
The hamburger festival at the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse was certainly a fascinating experience. While the lineup of delicious-looking hamburgers and the lively atmosphere were a joy to behold, the long lines and the weather made it difficult to work up an appetite. Standing in line in the heat and pouring rain was disturbing to our inner peace, and the philosophy of Private Wisdom states that it is important to prioritize choices that are in harmony with ourselves, rather than forcibly pursuing external pleasures. Following that teaching, this time we distanced ourselves from nature and shifted to our next destination.
The experience at Larboard was quite the opposite. The restaurant is cool and the view of the ocean through the large windows is calming. When we arrived at our table, the service was impressive, with the staff serving us attentively and making us feel as if we were special. We realized that the hotel has acquired the Michelin key in recent years, which has further improved the quality of the restaurant. The cozy atmosphere brought a deep sense of peace to our hearts, and it also encouraged conversation with my wife. This lunch date became more than just a meal – it became a time to strengthen our bond. We never expected a weekend by the sea in Yokohama to be so fulfilling.
Private Wisdom Summary
This trip to Yokohama was a wonderful experience that embodied the spirit of Private Wisdom. Our choice to prioritize our inner peace over external temptations ultimately led to our luxurious time at Larboard. The hamburger festival at the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse was lively and attractive, but Private Wisdom teaches that it is important to choose a path that is in harmony with nature, rather than trying to forcefully satisfy our desires. That choice led me to a quiet, luxurious lunch date with my wife.
The beef burger, fish burger, cappuccino, and gateau chocolat at Larboard meant more than just a meal. It was a moment of release from the everyday, filling the soul through the sense of taste. It was also impressive that the efforts of the Michelin-keyed hotel were conveyed to us in the form of comfort; the Private Wisdom worldview emphasizes inner fulfillment and harmony with nature over material abundance. Through this trip, we were reminded of how important that balance is.
On our next trip, we would like to make the best choices for ourselves and pursue a spiritually enriching time with the teachings of Private Wisdom in mind. The seaside of Yokohama will be an ideal setting for those of us seeking such reflection and luxury. Why don’t you step away from your daily routine and plan a trip to face yourself?
